In late November 1940 the Germans began construction of a gun battery consisting of four 380 mm. guns near Dueodde on the southern tip of the Danish island of Bornholm. The gun battery would be similar to the one under construction in Hanstholm.
The building was initially plagued by numerous delays, primarily because of a very hard winter. In February 1941 German High Command gave orders to halt construction. It had opted instead to build a gun battery on the Hela peninsula near Danzig. (Battery Schleswig Holstein)
It was therefore decided to close the current moldings and thus only the foundations of guns 3 and 4 were partly cast.
In the summer of 1941, the site finally closed down and all machinery, equipment etc. was taken by boat to Kristiansand in Norway where the Germans had begun construction of Marine Küstenbatterie Vara. There was no further building on Bornholm and the two half-finished foundations can today be seen in the forest, 500 meters northeast of the lighthouse.
